Take a piece of white cardstock 18 inches wide and six inches tall. Fold the two ends of the card in so that they meet at the midpoint of the card’s length. Take the construction paper and cut out two pieces of each color except the black. These pieces should measure one and a half inches tall and one inch wide. Take the red construction paper and trace two circles that measure about two inches in diameter. Jar lids or the base of a can work great for tracing circles. Finally, take the black construction paper and cut out eight very small rectangles – about one-eighth the size of the multi-colored rectangles. Arrange the circles and rectangles on the front of the card to match DJ Lance’s boombox (a quick web search will bring up an image of this boombox to see as a guide) and glue them into place. The front of your card is done!

Now, unfold the card to complete the inside of the invitation. First, take a piece of black card stock and cut out three rectangles that are just a few millimeters smaller on each side than the center of the card and the two flaps. Glue them onto the sections so that a small white border is visible around the outside of the black.

Inside the nine-inch stretch at the middle of the card between the two folds, you will be gluing cut-out images of each of the Yo Gabba Gabba characters. The easiest way to get these images is to print out the puppet theatre templates of the characters, which you can find at http://www.nickjr.com/printables/yo-gabba-gabba-puppets.jhtml?path=/printables/yo-gabba-gabba/all-themes/all-ages/index.jhtml. Cut them out and glue them into place in the proper order from left to right: Muno, Foofa, Plex, Brobee, and Toodee.

Finally, there remain the flaps on the right and left of the card in which to write the text of the invitations. On the left, think of a fun and simple phrase to introduce the party. Something along the lines of “It’s a party at Johnny’s house!” or “It’s time to play games with Julie at her birthday party!” Type it up in a word processing program with a fun and bold font, and make sure that the size of the writing fits into the dimensions of the flap. Print it out, and cut it so that once again you have a rectangle that is a bit smaller than the black area on the flap. Paste in onto the left flap so that it creates a black border around the outside of the printer paper. On the right flap, do the same with the details of the party such as day, time, and address.

Muno lives in a pink, purple and blue-hued land that resembles a cross between a Martian landscape and Arches National Park. Foofa’s home has green hills topped with flowers that look like white daisies. Brobee’s home is filled with autumn-colored trees, while Toodee’s home looks like a collection of icy, pointed peaks.

Visit the Yo Gabba Gabba Nick Jr site in order to find backgrounds on which to base each piece of your landscape. For each character, choose one prominent feature from their realm to draw onto your craft board. Choose the arch from Muno’s realm, a tree from Brobee’s, an ice formation from Toodee’s, and one flower-topped hill from Foofa’s home. Standard craft board is 22in x 28in, although you may be able to find it in larger sizes. If not, be sure to use the whole length of the board when drawing your shapes. If you prefer not to draw, another opt ion is to print the templates from NickJr.com, cut out the shapes you want to replicate, and take them to a print shop to be copied and enlarged.

Since the formations in Muno’s realm are striped in pink, purple, lavender, and blue, you will need to use construction paper to decorate your landscape. The easiest way to do this is to take 16 pieces of construction paper – four of each color – and cut them to be three and a half inches tall. Glue them to the arch in a repeating pattern until the colors come together at the top of the arch. Then, flip the arch over and use scissors to trim the extra construction paper away from the shape of the arch.

For Toodee’s realm and Foofa’s realm, you should be able to find green and light blue posterboard to match Toodee’s monotone ice peaks and Foofa’s green hills. Use a ruler to help you draw clean, straight lines to create Toodee’s peak, and cut it out with scissors. Free-draw Foofa’s green hill on the poster board, and then turn to the construction paper to make flowers for the hilltop. Cut petal shapes out of white construction paper, and circles out of yellow and orange paper. Then glue the flowers onto the top of the hill so that they overlap, and so that lots of petals are sticking up above the top of the hill.

Finally, you need to create a tree for Brobee’s home. First, draw a simple trunk out of light brown posterboard. The trunk can be a rectangle, or it can flare out on either side at the bottom. Second, choose a color of posterboard for the tree itself – the trees in Brobee’s land can be pink, brown, orange, or green-hued. I recommend brown in order to be very distinct from the colors of the other characters’ homes. Use the background from NickJr.com as your guide and draw a simple pine tree. If you want to dress up the tree a bit, cut some thin strips out of yellow or pale pink construction paper to glue on top of the branches.

Finally, use the plain cardboard to stand the pieces upright. Cut the cardboard into tall right triangles, or triangles whose long and short sides meet at between 80 and 90 degrees. Use rectangles of posterboard folded to a 90-degree angle as tabs to secure the cardboard to the pieces of landscape with glue. Set up your pieces in different corners of a room, and Gabba Land is ready!

If you're really ambistious (and price isn't an issue) you can add Yo Gabba Gabba stand-up characters to each land. Another option is to just add your child's favorite stand-up character to the decorations. These stand-ups with the backdrop of Gabba Gabba land is a great photo opportunity and makes a great image to include in your Yo Gabba Gabba thank-you cards.

Sugar Cookies
For a delicious treat, sugar cookies are tough to beat and easy to make! You can find a great Sugar Cookie basic recipe here. To dress them up to fit your theme, add a bit of food coloring, or employ icing to create the faces of the Yo Gabba Gabba charaters.

Food coloring is very easy to use, and will add very little time to your baking process. Divide your dough into five parts in five different bowls, and add a few drops of food coloring to each one. The more drops you add, the richer the colors will become. You can buy food coloring in a variety of colors, or buy primary colors and use color mixing to create green, purple, orange, or any other colors you want.

Fondant Cookies
A more ambitious project would be to draw the faces of each character with icing. Treats-sf.blogspot.com has some great designs for you to use, as well as another recipe for vanilla sugar cookies if you don’t like the other one. This project requires planning, since some of the work is best to do a day or so ahead of time. The project mentions the use of fondant, which is a kind of thick icing that is great for cutting into shapes to be placed on your designs. The author recommends using fondant for the characters’ eyes, and a few other shapes such as Brobee’s horns. You can buy small cartons of fondant to roll out, or sheets in different colors from which you can cut your shapes. If you buy a carton, you will need to use food coloring to create your colors and ideally let the pieces sit in the fridge overnight.

If you’re short on time or craft supplies, you can purchase some great ready-made party favors that should delight the kids. For $4.99 each you can purchase a Yo Gabba Gabba party favor box shaped like DJ Lance Rock’s colorful radio. Inside are a set of eight oversize crayons and a notepad, a sticker sheet, a glitter bounce ball, a ring, and a party blower. Each item is decorated with the faces of Yo Gabba Gabba’s five colorful main characters. If you plan to make your own party favors but want a fun way to hand them out, you can also purchase the empty cardboard boomboxes to fill with your own goodies!

You can also purchase some other fun items that would make great party favors, and are relatively inexpensive. $3.99 (or less) will get you a Yo Gabba Gabba coloring book that comes with three double-sided crayons. For only $1.99, you can get each child his or her own pair of DJ Lance glasses. A bit more money - $6.99 – will get you a coloring book that comes with over 250 stickers.

Iron-on Yo Gabba Gabba T-shirts
If you do have the time to make handmade party favors, Nick Jr has templates and step-by-step instructions for making some items that are sure to delight your little guests. One idea is to custom make a t-shirt for each child. This project involves iron transfer paper, plain t-shirts, and the templates available to print off the website. The kids can wear their t-shirts during the party, which means everybody will match the theme!

Yo Gabba Gabba Snuggle Pillows
Nick Jr also has step-by-step instructions for making pillows in the shape of the different Yo Gabba Gabba characters. This project is a bit more ambitious, but still very do-able if you have a bit on time on your hands. There is no sewing involved in the making of these pillows, and even someone who doesn’t consider herself/himself very “crafty” should be able to follow these instructions. The supplies that you will need for this project are felt, water-resistant fabric glue, and cotton or polyester to stuffing to make the pillows soft and fluffy! If you don't have access to a fabric store fabric.com provides a great selection at reasonable prices. This makes a great party favor that the kids will be talking about for quite a while!

Another fun cake decoration is using an edible icing cake topper that instantly transforms a plain cake into a delicious theme-perfect treat. The cake topper here shows each of the five characters in a rainbow circle, with the Yo Gabba Gabba logo in the upper left hand corner. It is fun and professional looking, and will perfectly match any other official party decorations you have purchased. Here are a few more edible image cake toppers.

DJ Lance Fuzzy Hat Cake
Re-creating DJ Lance’s fuzzy orange hat is a great way to dress up a round birthday cake. Use a round cake pan to bake several layers for your cake – three is a good number since DJ Lance’s hat is fairly tall. Choose whatever kind of cake your child likes best, be it chocolate, vanilla, angel food, or something else. Be sure to allow the cake to cool after coming out of the oven, or your frosting will melt right off!

Make your own frosting or buy pre-made frosting, and use food coloring to dye it bright orange. Use frosting to “glue” the three layers of cake together, and then you are ready to start decorating.

Decorating this is easy. Simply lather the whole cake in as much orange frosting as you have! You want a fairly thick layer of frosting around the whole cake to allow you to texture it a bit. Texture is important, since DJ Lance’s hat is super fuzzy. Use the end of a whisk to create a fuzzy look all around the cake by dabbing it into the frosting. The wires of the whisk will create valleys, while the frosting will cling to the whisk as you pull away, leaving wisps and peaks. Another option is to add coconut into your orange frosting as this will create the fuzzy look with very little work.

Finally, use fondant icing to create stars to embellish the hat. DJ Lance’s hat has only one star decoration, but to add a bit more excitement to the cake it is perfectly acceptable to add several! The stars have two layers: a silver nine-pointed star underneath a light-orange five-pointed star. Neither star on the real hat is particularly mathematically uniform, so don’t be concerned if your stars come out a bit lopsided as you cut them (or use a star-cookie cutter). Place the silver stars directly onto the orange frosting toward the base of the cake, and then place the orange stars on top of the silver. You can also use star-shaped sugar cookie if fondant icing is too much work.

Now you have a cake that would do any retro DJ proud!

Boombox Cake
Another idea is to recreate DJ Lance’s colorful boombox on a sheet cake. You could purchase a ready-made sheet cake with chocolate cake and white frosting, or bake your own chocolate cake and frost it in white. Then copy the simple geometric shapes from the boombox onto your cake. With basic shapes like these, even a novice cake froster should have no trouble!

Make Lemonade!
Plex the Robot has a repeated solo segment during which he teaches the audience skills through song in four simple steps. Often these skills are purely practical, such as brushing teeth or putting on pajamas, but sometimes they can be just for fun. One such skill is making lemonade – a great treat for you to make ahead of time, or have your little party-goers help you prepare.

Whichever option you choose, you will want to take care of slicing the lemons in half yourself, and have them ready to squeeze. Opinions vary on just how many lemons you need to make the perfect pitcher of lemonade, but I recommend purchasing about 10 to make sure that you have plenty. Squeeze the lemon juice into a bowl by hand – if children help with the squeezing be sure to help them wash their hands right away, since lemon juice can sting a bit if it gets into the eyes. Ideally, you will end up with about one and a half cups of lemon juice, which you should combine with six cups of water.

Once the juice and water are mixed together in a pitcher, add honey to sweeten the drink. Honey is a great substitute for sugar as a sweetener, for several reasons. First of all, 100 grams of honey contains fewer calories than 100 grams of sugar. Secondly, sugar is between 25 and 50 percent sweeter than sugar, so you need to use less of it to sweeten your food or beverage. Finally, as a natural sweetener, honey contains vitamins and minerals that sugar is lacking!

Invite Fruits and Veggies to the Party
Yo Gabba Gabba always encourages inviting fruits and vegetables to the party, but a fun presentation can add even more incentive for your little munchers to munch on some fresh produce. Few things in the world are quite as delicious as strawberries and kiwis,
so how about shaping slices of fruit into the face of Brobee the little green monster? Or making DJ Lance’s boombox out of a variety of fruits and berries? Or Mono’s face out of slices of red pepper, with a cup of yummy ranch dressing in the middle to form his one eye? The possibilities are endless! You just have to get a little bit creative!

Brobee is the striped green monster with the big red grin who sang the song “Party In My Tummy” on the very first episode of Yo Gabba Gabba. The game consists of a large Brobee wall decal made of vinyl that can be affixed to any smooth and flat surface, along with 11 food decals of various sizes. The show’s concept is pretty simple: a group of four children guest star on every episode of Yo Gabba Gabba, and in a brief segment DJ Lance will appear with his boom box and invite all the kids to learn a new dance move with him. With a funky beat playing in the background, DJ Lance teaches fun and simple moves such as the Arm Wiggle (hold your arms out to your sides and wave them around), the Boing (spin around, touch the ground, leap up into the air), and the Funky Penguin (put your legs apart, your arms to your sides, point your hands out, and wobble back and forth). For a bit more money, you can order personalized Yo Gabba Gabba invitations that include a photo of the birthday girl or boy along with date, time, and address information. This option is a nice compromise for those who want unique invitations but don’t quite have the time to make them by hand. In addition to a photo, you can select a personalized message that will be unique to your child’s invitations.  This saves you time as you don't have to hand-print out each invitation!

Handmade Yo Gabba Gabba Invitation Idea

One simple handmade idea is to make your invitations in the shape of the various Yo Gabba Gabba characters. You could choose one character if your child has a favorite, or do a couple of each character to add variety.

First, print out the character images from the Nick Jr. site. If the size at which they print is too small (they should ideally be at least 10 inches tall) take them to a print shop to have them blown up.

Next, take a piece of cardstock that is at least twice the size of the image, and fold it in half. Glue the image onto the cardstock, making sure to line up part of the left side of the image with the fold. Then, cut the image out of the cardstock, leaving the part of the image that runs along the fold untouched. You will end up with two identical character shaped pieces that open into a card along the fold.

Finally, type up the party information, print and cut it out, and paste it onto the inside of the card. You’re done!

The homemade game will required all the same parts as the game. You can print a picture of Brobee here then go to your local office supply store and get it enlarged. Next, print off a pieces of food and add masking tape to the back of each piece of food. You may want to have the large poster laminated so that it doesn't rip when pulling the food pieces off of Brobee. You may want to call your office supply store for pricing details as the official party game may actually work out cheaper and be of higher quality.

Whichever option you choose the game is played much like 'Pin the tail on the Donkey'. Simply blindfold the kids, spin them around a certain number of times and see where they place the food on Brobee!
